SHORT HISTORY OF ÇEŞME

Çeşme, known as CYSSUS during antique age, was the Ildırı’s quay of Erythrai (Eritre) one of 12 Ionia cities from 1000 BC at the western coast of Anatolia for this reason it should be considered together with the history of Çeşme. Eritre, which carries utmost importance for its archeological and touristic importance, posessed great amount of economic power at 7 th and 8 th century BC. At this period, the city was in trade relations with Mediterranian and Cyprus especially and was holding the slave and wine trade along with (CHIOS) Sakız Island. Eritre suffered great amount under the attacks of LYDIA (LİDYA) and Persians but at the 14 th century BCbecame a rich state again. The city was bount the Kingdom of Bergama and then to the Roman Empire at the 2 nd century BC. During the Roman era Çeşme region was given the name CYSSUS. When Roman Empire divided into two, Eritre remained on the Byzantian land, lost its importance and antique establishment were destroyed in the city at the time when religion gained power against shaman faith and idols. Eritre and Çeşme region bound to Byzantion Empire, was first conquered by Turks during Çaka Bey time at the middle ages. KLOZEME peninsula was conquered by Çaka bey, father-in-law of Kılıçarslan during Selçuk’s period. The city which was bount to Ottoman Empire again by Yıldırım Beyazit during ottoman period was bount to Aydınoğulları again by Timur after Ankara battle in 1402. However, it was again given to Ottomans in 1422. During world war, Çeşme was invaded by Greeks but during independence war it was rescued by Fahrettin Altay Paşa troops in September 16 1922. As it is understood from its name, it shelters so many historical fountains in its structure.


TRANSPORTATION

Çeşme is the furthest point at the west of Turkey bounded to İzmir with a motorway of 80 km. Çeşme, with an area of 260 square kms is 8 nautical miles to Sakız Island which belongs to Greece. Ferry boat voyages are made from Sakız Island, Bari, Venice, Brindisi regularly.

ŞİFNE BIG PORT, PAŞA PORT

ÇİFTLİKKÖY and BRILLANT BEACH (Hotel Babaylon)
Çiftlikköy is a typical Aegean fishing village and approximately 10 km to çeşme, is known with its natural beaches called ALTINKUM (Golden Sand), PIRLANTA (brillant) beach and Tursite. EŞEK (Donkey) ISLAND
Donkey Island is one hour from Çeşme bu boat. Previous name of the island is Goni. The island welcomes tourists with its clear sea, nature which combines gren and blue and hospitable donkeys. Donkeys are accustomed to people by receiving food continuously from tourists and boat owners who come to see the island. As the island is in the scope of national park, people are allowed to visit for daily touristical purpose only .

Famous with its calm sea and bars situated between Çeşme and Dalyan.
